Re: What is the replacement of kdesudo and gksu in Buster?

You could try pkexec, the man page contains some good information.

What is the replacement of kdesudo and gksu in Buster?

Kdesudo and gksu are not anymore in Buster. How are we supposed to open a graphical application when it is called from another graphical application like a file manager or the system menu?

Tips for viewing logs? in GUI?

... I have to do it from the workstation itself--which is isolated on its own segmented network. Buster now sports Wayland, which means I can't use GKSU for running GUI log viewers. Does anyone have any recommendations here? Am I going about this all wrong? I don't have the resources of an enterprise ...

Re: Is there any software you miss that used to be in Debian

gksu.

Gosh, I don't know how I forgot about that one :)

I just installed gksu from Oldstable on a fresh Sid install - it still works.

Re: Solved -Virtual Machine Manager 2.0.0 in Buster

... does - things that old ways are leaving, new ways are not solidified, so things don't work without actually being broken. Root stuff (pkexec/gksu/Phil Collins), iptables is still required, and more. Add another. Qemu-img, a favorite of mine, has changed. It appears to be improved. Syntax ...

Re: one big partition :)

Why? That's like installing a deadbolt lock in the bathroom door. After I took out gksu from stretch the only thing I missed was the cool root terminal icon... I use it for a root terminal button not provided by gksu...You can enable the user with sudo to nix the ...

Re: one big partition :)

... fine. I'm about 80% back up and running, got a few more applications to install. BTW (and you don't get to holler at me for this either), getting gksu working on a fresh Sid install was a bit of a pain in the backside :)

Re: [IT'S A BUG] Can't launch partitionmanager, kdesu hangs

... will continue working around them for now. Haven't gotten around to switching to Buster yet either though. Been leaning towards continued use of gksu/do, obsolete (sec concerns) or not even if would have to snatch the packages from archives and forego Wayland too. Might opt for using lxqt-sudo ...

Re: Is there any software you miss that used to be in Debian

These are listed, in synaptic, as local or obsolete, since they're installed, I don't miss them yet... gksu - I don't have wayland, someday if/when I'm forced to do way with gksu[do] I'm going to really be struggling. leafpad - it's not my primary editor. Sometimes caja won't ...

Re: DEBIAN STRETCH TO BUSTER UPGRADE WOES

... click it just works. In other threads I tried to point out gdebi works fine using its own filechooser dialog, or from a root thunar. I purged gksu in stretch and started the transition, and waited for all the fixes, and now on buster everything does work. If I want to, I still have a functional ...

Debian Stretch to Buster upgrade woes (UPDATED)

... in Buster, unbelievable. You are stuck with Firefox ESR. To add Quantum I added the repo from SolydXK. ### LOCAL GUI PROGRAMS AS ROOT ### - gksu/gksudo has been deprecated. The recommended method to run GUI programs with root is now to run them with "pkexec programname" (policykit). ...

Re: no root term after upgrade deb 9-10

OK, the "root terminal" menu entry is provided by gksu.desktop, which is part of the gksu package and has been removed for Debian 10.

Here's a "safer" alternative: https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 34#p521734 ← see the bit after the EDIT.
