I installed Debian 6 last night on an older Compaq. For the system to properly reboot and shutdown when requested, both acpi=force and reboot=warm must be in the boot parameters, this was required with other Linux distros installed on this hardware. Otherwise, the ...

Re: [SOLVED]Graphics:No 3D. Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/G

Previously after grub loads the kernel, some boot messages were printed at low resolution, then after that it switched to a higher resolution. I think that's the i915modeset=1 that's kicking in. You can do these modifications from the kernel line ...

Re: [solved] Newly installed Squeeze cannot boot

If your computer has a soft-shutdown* button you can try pressing it a few times. That usually shuts down my computer when it stalls midway through the shutdown process (this worked both on older Ubuntus and Lenny/Squeeze broken hybrid installation, though I didn't have this problem on pure Squeeze)...

Re: hp Z400 + NVIDIA Quadro NVS 295 problems SOLVED

I have finally managed to find a way around this; it was, after all, not related to the graphics card. It is willing too boot up when I add "noapic nolapic acpi=off" to the boot parameters in grub. I haven't tried which of them does the trick, as far as I am concerned, the problem is solved.
