Hi
Anyone know if there is some modern/easy way to create own distro based on current install?
I have Debian 9.2 with i3 and alot packages/configs, i spend much time configuring everything and would like to create USB installer for other machines.
Thanks

Creating own distro/installer
Re: Creating own distro/installer
For a start, look at:
DebianInstaller/Preseed and apbs04.html.en
And there's the helper script, apt-clone, to clone/restore an existing setup, in the Debian repository.

It will save/restore the packages, sources.list, keyring and automatic-installed states. It can also save/restore no longer downloadable packages using dpkg-repack.
DebianStable
Code: Select all
$ vrms
No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.

There are also at least 3 or 4 topics/threads on the forum , where the same question was asked.
Not counting all the wonderfull tutorials that one will find if the do a serch using the same key words,
as the topic title. Adding Linux, or Debian to the search string narrows it down some.

I saw the wiki already but it seems super complicated for me.kedaha wrote:For a start, look at:

I guess easiest option for me would be to use shell script then :/

For what you want to do, this is your best option:

I suggest using FAI. It's very flexible, you can easily create you own installation ISO. And FAI can do much more than just preseeding. For a first try, there's a new web service called FAI.me which creates customized installation images. https://fai-project.org/FAIme
If you want to create more complicated configs, you have to set up your own FAI server. Then you can build your own installation ISOs using the commands fai-mirror and fai.cd
