Intermittent system crash and reboot

#1 Post by coconutlulz »

Hi,

I'm using testing on a Toshiba L50D-B-13Q laptop. Once or twice a day, X suddenly hangs (screen and peripherals freeze) with looping audio (if playing) for about three seconds and I am instantly brought back to the POST screen.

This usually occurs when I'm listening to music, on a video call (Google Hangouts in both Iceweasel or Epiphany) or watching a video (local file or Flash). What all of these have in common is that they are using the sound card. The last time it occurred, I had opened the Sound options in GNOME settings. I also have some problems with PulseAudio that I have opened a bug report for. I am affected by:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=765848
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=771105

I attempted to stress my CPU with stress-ng and my GPU with Chrome Experiments but they seemed fine. Initially, I suspected something to do with graphics.

I have main, contrib and non-free enabled and some proprietary packages installed, such as firmware-linux-nonfree and wireless-bcm43142-dkms_6.20.55.19-1 (necessary for my wireless adapter to work). The crashes occur whether on ethernet or wireless, including if wireless is disabled and the module ('wl') removed with modprobe -r.

I have installed kdump... not sure if this is a true kernel panic though and my /var/crash is empty.
