Problem with swap memory...

Hi all and sorry for my english...

I'm using debian "testing" on my notebook i5, 8gb of ram DDR3...
I have problem when I reach limit of memory and start using file swap: the pc become very slowly and hdd led is always on... I must reboot pc...

Anyone can tell me how this problem? What I must looking for to resolve?

If you are actually using up all 8GB of RAM, then your system's behavior is both entirely expected and quite correct. That's the whole point of swap.

A better question might be: what exactly are you doing that routinely eats 8GB of RAM?

If in fact you really are legitimately needing >8GB (which seems unlikely), then the solution is to install more RAM. If not, then you can experiment with "swapiness" to reduce swap activity. (Google has details.)

Oh, and stop resetting your system merely because you're feeling impatient. You run a risk of data and/or file system corruption.

Indeed I was (and did). I have no inkling how my reply managed to get disconnected from the OP.

(But since I no longer have access to the mod logs...)
