Should I enable TPM in bios?

#1 Post by kcbagr »

Does debian make use of the Trusted Platform Module (TPM)? I don't know much about it or how it works. Is it a proprietary thing with backdoors like Intel's IME? Or is it something debian makes use of and I should enable?

I have a 2011 ThinkPad that does not have secure boot (if this makes a difference).

TPM requires additional hardware which most machines do not have - right now. You can query your computer. Mine says:

Code: Select all

# dmesg | grep ima:
[ 0.706696] ima: No TPM chip found, activating TPM-bypass!
So at least the kernel (Debian 9.1) seems to know about TPM...
