ClamAV "known viruses" decreases after each update

#1 Post by Benian »

Hi,

It seems that everytime i update my ClamAV database, it shrinks... Is that a normal behavior ?
A similar behavior was reported here but that thread is 10yo and has no answer...

Code: Select all

$ clamscan <file>
>----------- SCAN SUMMARY -----------
>Known viruses: 10038566
and after updating ClamAV ($ sudo freshclam).

Code: Select all

$ clamscan <file>
>----------- SCAN SUMMARY -----------
>Known viruses: 10037236
I am on Debian Sid.
I use SecuriteInfo as complementary external virus definition database to the default db.

Thanks for your help.

Your question is about ClamAV and not about Debian. At best this is Offtopic, and certainly not General Questions.

Instead of bumping your topic in the wrong venue, maybe ask your question someplace where there's some actual ClamAV expertise, like the ClamAV user support mailing list: http://lists.clamav.net/cgi-bin/mailman ... amav-users

(Tip: Read the list archives before posting your question.)

Well my question is about ClamAV behavior on a Debian Sid.

I chose to post in the General Questons section because :
(1) it's where to post "If none of the more specific forums is the right place to ask" and
(2) because in the topic search i have done before posting that's where this kind of questions had been posted, for example :
the 2007 thread i point to in my first message : http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=97882#p97882 with the similar behavior i describe
and many others :
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 5&p=646184
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 4&p=594700
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 4&p=588305
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 9&p=609653
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 6&p=604244
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 6&p=635750

But maybe they were all wrong or posting policies have changed, in that case sorry, i'll try on ClamAV forum then.

Cheers,
