libgl1-mesa-glx: Couldn't open libGL.so.1, undefined symbol

#1 Post by paulclou »

Dear Debian community,

For the Lenovo T440s laptop, I recently aptitude upgraded libgl1-mesa-glx from 13.0.6-1+b2 to 17.2.2-1 and rebooted. Now startx returns
xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O (operation not permitted)
Couldn't open libGL.so.1: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1: undefined
symbol: _giapi_tls_Current
xinit: giving up

I filed a bug report here https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=879583, but currently the laptop is unusable. What can be done to temporarily regain usability of the laptop? Note, a computer that could not upgrade libgl1-mesa-glx due to dependency conflicts with nvidia drivers works fine.

Thanks,
Paul.

OK, was assuming you were mixing stretch and buster but I see that that version transition in testing only happened last week.

The new version is a transitional dummy package, depending on the new component packages.

Testing is fun, yes?

There is a slightly newer version in sid, or you could downgrade back to yiur old version.

BTW, no X != unusable...

Thanks for the response. Upgrading to sid version did not work, but downgrading to the stable version allows X to launch successfully. Do you think it is necessary to pin libgl1-mesa-glx to stable for now, or upgrade as usual and downgrade if there are any issues?

Thanks!
