upgrade iceweasel/firefox on Debian Squeeze (powerpc)

#1 Post by mrkapqa »

Hello ,

i would like to upgrade the Browser on my Debian Linux System;
it is currently held
at

iceweasel-l10n-de (1:10.0.12esr-1~bpo60+1)

which i could install via Debian Squeeze Backports.

Any indications on how to install a newer Browser?
Sadly, Iceape has been removed from the Repositories.

Thank you for your help.

Happy Christmas²all

Download the tarball. Open it and run the browser in your user space. That way you don't have to worry about how it will affect your system because it won't.

Hello.
Squeezy has been depriciated long ago, and current Debian Stable is Stretch. Debian 8 Jessie is still supported but it too is very much outdated. You ae on Debian 6.
Firefox is curently at v52 ESR, but installing FF57 is possible manually as described in the previous post.
EDIT: https://www.debian.org/ports/powerpc/
Your only option is Jessie right now, sadly.

Thank you very much,

dont i need to compile something here? again, it is on powerpc macmini g4.
actually, the computer is a bit slow, and debian squeeze works ok,

i would use for surfing also only iceweasel 3.5 , but some extensions could not be installed (due to some signing error -260)

I have squeeze running on i386 no backports and xulrunner 1.9.1
and am posting using firefox 26.0

it might go a bit higher but I had issues with nightly29 hanging with google analytics and had to kill firefox
not sure how it will work on powerpc but here is the mac Firefox 26.0.dmg

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/rele ... mac/en-US/

ps: keep iceweasel or iceape installed so you have necessary depends available
edit: and if you need another locale beside US drop back one folder and click the one you use.
