Download signed debian package using ubuntu

Postby thesaddestnoob » 2018-01-31 02:32

I need to download the atheros driver: https://packages.debian.org/stretch/all ... s/download

but the download is unsecure (plainbtext). The sha256 is displayed though, through https. However, I want to be sure that I'm downloading the true driver, through ubuntu so I can send to my debian via pen drive. Is there any way that I can verify the signature of this driver using a signing key used by debian developers? Also, where to get this public key?

OK, everyone playing the drinking game slams down another shot when a poster calls firmware a "driver".

Anyway, deb files are not signed. Instead, their checksums are listed in a .dsc text file and then that file is signed by the packager.

So you can check the checksum of your download from the dsc file: http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/no ... 1130-3.dsc

The person that has signed the dsc file is probably in public keyservers. The way it works when I sign packages is the person in the last stanza of the Debian changelog that is included in every deb package.
