I've noticed the same thing: Consider this compare: Kate, then the Gnu Text Edit:pawRoot wrote:I have my fonts set up perfectly, although i have just noticed that in Visual Studio Code and Atom there is

I highly suspect here that it is the KDE origin programs that don't present well. perhaps they are using bit-map fonts instead of true-type? dunno.
this may be a mixed blessing though: on LMDE the KDE programs love to slam the audio volume to 11 when they want to present an attention message. If the audio is allocated to -- e.g. music -- that is not cool. The audio on this system is connected thru a Bheringer DAC to a NAD 356BEE amp: 80W/channel. If you slam it to 11 you'll blow out the windows, the dog starts barking, the wife has a few remarks and the burglar alarms go off. Not cool, but this seems to be suppressed in this straight version of Debian.
I'm thinking of just moving the KDE programs off the preferred app status. I ain't so sure about this KDE crowd anyway.

I suspect that VSC, like Atom, is an Electron application. That means that it's written in Web languages like Javascript and then shipped with an embedded Chromium browser in order to run that code.

I guess all these spam posts about Windows belong to the abandoned Microsoft's QA team
If it uses Chromium as a wrapper, then it's no wonder fonts look like that. Default font rendering on Chromium is abysmall.
