NVIDIA Driver 390.48
NVIDIA Driver 390.48
So after much work I found the .deb package of this driver to install...
The error I am getting is;
Dependency is not satisfiable:
nvidia-driver-libs(=390.48-1)|nvidia-driver-libs-nonglvnd
(= 390.48-1)
So where do I begin. I am running 375.82
I download the libs package for that driver and i can not install because it conflicts with existing ones.

Re: NVIDIA Driver 390.48
You have provided no real information about what you're trying to do, or why you need the very latest version, but I suspect you are attempting to manually install upstream Debian Sid deb packages on Debian Stable. Is this the situation?
DON'T BREAK DEBIAN
You can get nvidia-driver 384.111 from stretch-backports if you need a driver that is known to be compatible.

Re: NVIDIA Driver 390.48
One of my games crashes in STEAM and I'd just like to get the latest driver working anyway,Vulkan ; pretty cool. That is what I am trying to do. I also don't want to mess up the entire system and have to wipe.
Granted this system is only one day old...
Last time I tried a backport install, I got this message; where it was like...
You must enter: Yes, Do as I say; to continue, and that screwed everything up.

What version of Debian are you actually using ?

Re: NVIDIA Driver 390.48
Have you tried the stretch-backports version instead? It works fine in MX Linux 17.1, which is Stretch-based, so we have it in the main MX 17 repo now.

It is advised to follow set up your system to build the drivers first. You can do this by installing module-assistant and running as root or with sudo:
Code: Select all

i haven't gotten sudo to work correctly for me yet. I always get you have entered the incorrect password.
I just saw this in the wiki for installing nvidia drivers:

Re: NVIDIA Driver 390.48
Usually that means you have damaged your system by adding incompatible repositories or force-installing incompatible deb packages. Backports are supposed to be compatible, though.
You don't need sudo if you have root. Perhaps you did not set up sudo during the install.

What password are you using ?, Sometimes people make the mistake of thinking it should be roots password, and that is wrong, it should be the users pass word, assuming the user is in the sudoers group.Postby ryankm » 2018-04-08 23:43

https://wiki.debian.org/sudo
and https://manpages.debian.org/man/8/visudo has more details.
But really you don't need "sudo", any way, as all ready mentioned "su" and roots password should work.

Re: NVIDIA Driver 390.48
Did you create a root password when you installed Debian? You must have, to install any packages.
Use it then with You can use su -c instead of sudo--make sure to enclose the following command in single quotes if it has spaces.
Use it then with
Code: Select all
su -c 'm-a prepare'

Re: NVIDIA Driver 390.48
Please remove the Ubuntu repositories for steam. Debian is not Ubuntu and you can damage your system by doing that, if you have not already. Steam is already available in the Debian repos, but you just have to add the non-free section after "main".
The wiki should always be your first place to go, not Ubuntu blogs. https://wiki.debian.org/Steam

Is that what is messing me up.... Itried to upgrade to testing and then unstable....
I am having troubles getting cinnamon to start will crash or lightdm will fail. It has something to with xorg.conf compiling wrong.
I keep getting something like: onumber of screens dose not equal number of devices.... equal FAIL
Partially true two screens one graphics card I unplugged the second sceen. I am able to login under fallback mode when cinnamon crashes.
I deleted steam.list in the sources.list.d
root@Murphy-Science-Center:/home/ryan/Desktop# inxi -r

So I can login on the original stretch 9 kernal and it says nvidia driver 390.48.... Second screen is blank. The system projects that it is there, and acts like it is there. The light is on, but it is blank.
So how do I completly remove steam from my system in it's current form.

You have broken your system for sure by adding the testing and unstable repositories. Please restore from a known good stable-only backup or reinstall before proceeding: https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian

I can log in fine with the LInux Kernal 4.9.0-6 and debian buster/sid.
* So far the only problem is I had to systemctl restart bluetooth to get A2dp HIfFi sink on. The second monitor started working after a restart and I added nvidia-xconfig --cool-bits=28
Linux kernal 4.15 has yet to come on

Well, if you don't want to follow the good advice given, then it would be best to learn to do some searches, and see if you can figure out how to keep the system, (FrankenDebian) working, ...
how do I completly remove steam from my Debian (Frankedebian) system
Also key words = How to remove packages from Debian", yields good results.
I also suggest reading this thread: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?&t=114130 it is educational.
