Sound Setup after problems

#1 Post by bookie »

Hi guys!
I have debian 9 xfce installed on GA-990FXA-D3...it has Realtek ALC889 High definition Audio 7.1 channel...
Everything was working and I had pulse audio installed....
Now nada...
I can hear the connection for the speakers but no sound...
Can some one give me the procedure for testing this....
Setting up the sound has always been a pain...
Thanks!

Confusing post. It was working but now is not?
You can hear but no sound? You can't hear no sound.

Open Pulseaudio Volume Control and make sure the correct sound card is selected and volumes are up and not muted. I've seen an occasion where pavucontrol looked ok but opened alsamixer and found it was muted there.

Sorry not meant to be confusing...must be my age....;)
I had sound and then nothing...
but I could hear the connection to the computer that one hears when speakers are turned on...
I have now fixed it....I removed pulse audio and reinstalled it and it started working again....no idea why it happened...but it is working now...
