acrobat reader crashes when i try to print

Postby capcla » 2018-08-23 08:06

Hi,
I installed acrobat reader 9.5.5 on my debian testing from deb-multimedia repo.
From which time, when I try to print a document, acroread crahes.
This is the report
Code: Select all
/usr/lib/Adobe/Reader9/bin/acroread-en: relocation error: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libnss_files.so.2: symbol __libc_alloc_buffer_alloc_array, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

How I tell, I installed acroread 9.5.5 and libc6 2.27
Code: Select all
# apt policy acroread
acroread:i386:
  Installato: 9.5.5-dmo5
  Candidato:  9.5.5-dmo5
  Tabella versione:
 *** 9.5.5-dmo5 100
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
# apt policy libc6
libc6:
  Installato: 2.27-5
  Candidato:  2.27-5
  Tabella versione:
 *** 2.27-5 500
        500 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian testing/main amd64 Packages

Using deb-multimedia is not advised.

There are alternatives to acrobat reader https://alternativeto.net/software/adob ... form=linux

An unexplained improvement in printing from Adobe Acrobat Reader https://deb-multimedia.org/lurker/messa ... discussion

Have you just tried update and upgrade?

I tried a lot of alternatives (okular, qpdf, for example) but for some things, acrobat is best.

If you're going with closed source anyway, I can suggest the freeware Master PDF Editor instead of the unmaintained security nightmare of Acrobat Reader.
The MX Linux repositories: Backports galore! If we don't have something, just ask and we'll try--we like challenges. New packages: Quod Libet 4.2.0, Pale Moon 28.2.0, wine-staging 3.20, GIMP 2.10.8, Liquorix kernel 4.18-22, Midori 6.0

yeah, like breaking your system and/or letting the spies in.

i wonder why people bother using debian with its social contract, only to then jump through all sorts of hoops to get the proprietary junk back onto their systems?
why not stick with windows, iOS or *buntu then?

it's time for that song again...

You can install last (several worakable versions ) Acrobat Reader DC with wine very easily using wizard Playonlinux.
apt-get install playonlinux

In my case, For example, Ive installed:
- Okular as a PDF Default reader
- Adobe Reader 9 and - FoxitReader 5 (wine windows) << Alternatives Readers
- Acrobat 7 (wine windows) and - Acrobat XI (wine windows) << PDF edition
