How to safely remove XFCE and keep LXDE

Postby sayansg » 2018-09-17 09:15

Hello Everyone,

I'd installed Debian XFCE but it is showing problems. When I login it shows no previous running instance of panel found.

So I installed LXDE as well from synaptic. I like it more than XFCE(Simpler, Faster much faster and my pc is old).

So I want to safely remove XFCE and keep LXDE. How exactly do I do that?

Does it slow PC performance if I have 2 Desktop Environments at the same time?

If not, I can maybe keep both.

Usually you can do this:

As root:

Code: Select all
# tasksel

Navigate to XFCE and deselect with spacebar.

No, it should not as only one DE is loaded when you log in.

Having two DEs should only use more storage.

Thanks for explaining. I think I'll keep both XFCE and LXDE for now.
