Have Youtube videos started showing tearing for you?

Tearing is disjointed and split frames in video, especially during movement; rapid movement makes it even worse.

We had a couple MX users report it suddenly started, but some investigation showed they meant streaming video in a browser, and that when they downloaded the same video, a player such as VLC was able to play it without any tearing. They hadn't changed any video-related packages recently, either, so I think this points to some change in what Youtube is providing, or a change in the browser, which we do update fairly often, as Debian does update Chromium.

Anyway, I'm interested if anyone else is having the same experience--I can't reproduce it on my machine with the same videos. Here's a testing video: https://youtu.be/5xkNy9gfKOg

Hmm--isn't Sid up to 63.0.3? Anyway, thanks---one of our users with the problem is using the n-blob driver on a Stretch base with Firefox 63.0.3 Mozilla binaries, and the "force-composition" tweak to prevent tearing, which works on standard video players.

I wonder if machine performance is a more important factor than Youtube.

Curiously, I never noticed any tearing until you put up this thread and test video. Obviously, it's not severe enough to bother me.

Someone in the comments section of the OP link YT vid said to switch on "Use hardware acceleration where available" in Chrome settings and this got rid of some minor tearing on my screen. Like Buckley, never really noticed tearing before and i watch a lot of YT.

Steve, I looked at the Video, and got a lot of tearing, but I was not using Debian,
and FireFox 62.0.3 was the browser, I did not try other browsers.
How ever, when I looked at other Videos, on youtube there is no tearing, in fact that usually is never a problem for me, it seems odd to me that the only time I get any tearing is with that one video, ...

The video is designed to tear, it will exaggerate the effect on any machine.

Which operating system did you test under? OpenBSD?
