How install packages for users not globally?

#1 Post by Danielsan »

Hi All,

I was trying to figure out how install games on my laptop's kid but in another user, so when we login to make the homework he can't get distracted...
Right now the only workaround I thought is to create local .desktop file where I put those game as hidden however at this point is born the curiosity, in a multi users distro how can I install software per users instead of globally?

Thanks,

D.

Restricted shell might be one way?

I would probably try to encourage discipline and concentration instead of removing the temptation from a young person. Sometimes taboos actually backfire, but I guess that is up to each parent to decide.

Thank you you gave me a track... So now I can create a restricted user or create a group with some restriction, I haven't figured it out yet but I am on the way.

Many programs are now available as appimages. They can be run in a user's space.

Yep, but this didn't solve the issue.

Flatpaks can be installed for a single user. Maybe try finding a good flatpak game. Flare RPG is a good Diablo-like game, and it has flatpak package.

The problem is I do not want any games available on the main account, now i understood that I can create a group where some files or folder aren't available, it is not so intuitive but feasible!
