I've never been able to get image preview to work for locally stores jpgs, pngs and gifs. What's up with that?
Thumbnails is set to 'All Files', doesn't make any difference.

And try the answer after that:
try changing nautilus preferences
Edit-> Preferences-> Preview-> Other Previewable Files-> only files under (set a higher MB value and then try reloading)
