Buying computer and could use help

Postby asd1234 » 2019-07-23 21:02

If you have any free time,

I am planning on buying a faster computer that I will run Debian on but I don't know if they will work with Debian. If anyone knows how to check if they are comparable that would be awesome or if you have any recommendations on what one I should buy because I have no idea.

These are the two I will probably get one of them. and I will probably get the dell because its faster unless I am wrong?

You should go back and read the reviews on those if you haven't.
They didn't sound all that promising.

If you end up deciding on something new i would suggest trying to get a machine that doesn't come with an OS or build your own or maybe have one built for you if you don't know how.

You could actually spend a little more and the price won't be too bad and build your own if you shopped around and found some deals on barebones stuff.

There is no reason to pay for a windows license you aren't going to use if you don't have to.

And don't forget

AMD > intel :D

What is the purpose of this computer. Hardware requirements are different for gaming, web browsing or video encoding, for instance. You could get a decent low power "nettop" for under $100. I purchased a very nice i3 for my Hackintosh project, cost me $99 shipped.

I am now considering building a computer because of what "thebluepill" said because I need 16GB or ram and probably an i7. I will have never done this before and I do not know if this is going to be more or less expensive than if I were to get an tower on amazon. Will building a computer be cheaper and faster?

I did a quick amazon search for computer parts and found the cheapest,

AMD processor 3.9GHZ $133
Corsair Vengeance 16GB RAM $72
ASUS AMD motherboard $103
SSD $30
Case $30
=$368

I am not spending 100 more dollars on a computer with the same speed and ram. Am I looking in the wrong place for these parts or is building a computer not the most cost efficient? Thank you.
