Networking problem - no wifi or ethernet connectivity

Postby biigii » 2019-07-25 19:39

hi all,

i am brand new to the forum and having a networking problem. couple nights ago i failed to update-upgrade due to some previous fiddling i'd done between Python2 and 3 so i did what any noob would do and copy-pasted some commands that i found on the internet! one was '$ sudo dpkg -r --force-depends libc6:i386' which i blame for loosing network service. both wifi and ethernet is gone now. i attached few screenshots from my terminal below and greatly appreciate it if someone can tell me what i have done wrong and how to fix it?

cheers guys

For investigation, who knows...

Code: Select all
apt list net-tools isc-dhcp-client network-manager wicd resolvconf libnss-resolve
sudo systemctl stop networking
sudo systemctl start networking
sudo ip link set etho up
networkctl status --all
ip link show

+ to clarify why you need so ugly operations like "dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb" and dpkg -r --force-depends" and so on.
You should normally not. Not surprised you break your system.

Code: Select all
egrep -v '#|^$' /etc/apt/sources.list{,.d/*}

You missed this one:
Code: Select all
egrep -v '#|^$' /etc/apt/sources.list{,.d/*}

If you don't like it, give me this to start
Code: Select all
grep ^d /etc/apt/sources.list

and
Code: Select all
dpkg -l network* | grep net | grep -v un

This is logic man.
This is the lesson from " "dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb" and dpkg -r --force-depends" ".
Really,.... never do this.
You have now to get what is missing, one by one, libnm0 and so on.

It is really time to think about Buster....

Sorry but I did not say "upgrade", but install.
Forget an upgrade on your system, ... or don't ask me for any help.
You can try to play.
