Brand new server crashing

Postby scar » 2019-09-03 18:28

Got a brand new server here and I installed Debian 10 on it. It is a pretty basic storage server with 12 drives and HBA card. Only extra hardware I added was Intel Quickassist card for compression. Installed the Intel drivers for it from 01.org. Configured ZFS 0.8.1 to use the compression card. Setup a ZFS pool on the drives and began copying our data to it. Server was fine for a couple days but then rebooted. Now it has rebooted several times when I tried resuming the data copy and continues to do so. I don't see anything in the system logs after the reboot. So how can I figure out what the problem is?

I tried to setup remote logging with rsyslog. On the host to receive the system logs, I added to its rsyslog.conf:
Code: Select all
module(load="imtcp")
input(type="imtcp" port="514")

and
Code: Select all
if $fromhost-ip startswith '192.168.1' then /var/log/crashing_system.log
& stop

Then on the server that's crashing, added this to its rsyslog.conf:
Code: Select all
*.*  action(type="omfwd" target="192.168.1.100" port="514" protocol="tcp"
            action.resumeRetryCount="100"
            queue.type="linkedList" queue.size="10000")

Confirmed that /var/log/crashing_system.log was getting filled with the entries from the crashing system. Waited for the system to crash again but didn't see any kernel panics or other debugging information in the /var/log/crashing_system.log file. Did i miss anything to enable or receive such debugging info? Or does it indicate it's not a problem with the kernel/OS? Thanks
