faad version 2.8.8-3 does NOT work on Debian 10

Postby kcbagr » 2019-12-14 07:44

I had zero issues on Debian 9 with faad version 2.8.0.

faad version 2.8.8-3 does NOT work on Debian 10. When I try to convert an MP4 to WAV (e.g., faad -o output-file.wav input-file.m4a), I get the following output:

Code: Select all
**** MP4 header ****
Brand:         M4A (version 0)
Compatible brands:   M4A mp42isom
invalid atom size 1 @20
parse:-1
Error opening file: input-file.m4a

Running the same file with the same command in Debian 9 works. Does anyone know a fix to make this work on Debian 10? I'm using Debian 10 64-bit install, fully up to date.

Can someone suggest another forum that would be good to post this question to? As no one seems to know anything about it in this forum.

Looks like the .deb package from sid may be installable, is the problem fixed for that version? You will be asked the same question when you file the bug report so try it now.

EDIT: try (re)moving any local configuration files, the syntax may have changed between releases without maintaining backwards compatibility.

I wonder if that's because it's unmaintained and ffmpeg probably works just as well or better for the same task.
The MX Linux repositories: Backports galore! If we don't have something, just ask and we'll try--we like challenges. New packages: Kodi 18.5, Featherpad 0.12.0, PulseEffects 4.7.0, KeepassXC 2.5.2, SuperTuxKart 1.1, Waterfox 2019.12
