Debian does not boot from a Live USB.

If none of the more specific forums is the right place to ask

Debian does not boot from a Live USB.

Postby Mail.afgs » 2019-12-28 00:14

Hello I created a live USB of Debian. I cannot boot the usb. It takes me to a black screen. I disabled secure boot it still shows the same thing. Some sort of an unusable blank shell prompt. First set of lines I see it says that there are errors. I did this twice on a MAC and once on a PC, reformatted the drive each time. What can I do?

Be more verbose.

How ? Post any command, do not omit any step.

What prompt ? Please be more precise.

What lines and errors ?
Please describe what happens before the black screen.

Well I don’t think I can be anymore precise than that. When I boot I see a black screen on any computer I use.
I can’t type anything in it, and I don’t think enabling usb boot would make a difference.

Well then I don't think I can help you more than that either.

I used Fedora Live usb creator. I did this on Windows. I booted using the USB and several other options that were related to the USB. I believe I had the GNOME version of Debian installed. It boots to a prompt that is a black screen.

If you are on Windows, try rufus https://rufus.ie/ and try both the recommended way and the dd way of flashing the image on the usb stick. For example when I tested Kali Linux and Elementary OS, only dd method would boot.
