MTP file transfer IO error

Postby ovitus » 2020-01-07 15:44

I'm trying to connect my phone (Samsung S7) to my laptop with Debian 10 Buster installed. I'm mounting it with jmptfs:

awright@t460:~$ jmtpfs ~/Android/
Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=6860) is a Samsung Galaxy models (MTP).

But then I get an IO error trying to access the mount:
awright@t460:~/Android$ ls
ls: cannot open directory '.': Input/output error

I can connect via MTP on my Fedora PC, but not on Debian.. why? Any help would be appreciated.

The package versions in Debian stable have been frozen for over a year now so Fedora will have shinier ones.

I use "WiFi FTP Server" on my Android phones and then simply use Filezilla from my Debian desktop and copy/move everything I need. I know it's not a direct answer to your question but might be an easier solution to achieve what you want.
I stumbled upon this method as my phone is USB C and I didn't have the right port on my laptop (or desktop) to transfer files.

Hi, after a debian install, I always install these packages and mtp transfers between my computer and smartphone works, well in my experience it works well in GTK DE's, not so well in QT DE's, hope this helps, good luck!
