MTP file transfer IO error

#1 Post by ovitus »

I'm trying to connect my phone (Samsung S7) to my laptop with Debian 10 Buster installed. I'm mounting it with jmptfs:

awright@t460:~$ jmtpfs ~/Android/
Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=6860) is a Samsung Galaxy models (MTP).

But then I get an IO error trying to access the mount:
awright@t460:~/Android$ ls
ls: cannot open directory '.': Input/output error

I can connect via MTP on my Fedora PC, but not on Debian.. why? Any help would be appreciated.

The package versions in Debian stable have been frozen for over a year now so Fedora will have shinier ones.

I use "WiFi FTP Server" on my Android phones and then simply use Filezilla from my Debian desktop and copy/move everything I need. I know it's not a direct answer to your question but might be an easier solution to achieve what you want.
I stumbled upon this method as my phone is USB C and I didn't have the right port on my laptop (or desktop) to transfer files.
