Debian buster - libpng12

Postby vincentRoca » 2020-03-18 13:13

Hello,

I am using Buster version of Debian.
To run the Freesurfer software, I need the libpng12.so.0 to be installed. But it seems the package doesn't exists in Buster. Have you any idea about how I can solve this problem ?

Thanks in advance

Thank you for the answer,

When I try to install the package you've given (dpkg -i <archive.deb>), I have the following error :
dpkg: error processing archive <archive.deb> (--install) :
Cannot install new version of « /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpng12.so.0 »: No such file or directory

Why does the system talk about a "new version" here ? Why does it search for "libpng12.so.0" ?

Is this an amd64 system?
Code: Select all
dpkg --print-architecture

If the output of the above command is "i386" then change my link so that it ends with "_i386.deb" and download & install that package instead.

This seems to be an error with the stretch package: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=130905&p=631940#p631940

I've just installed the wheezy version instead by adding this line to /etc/apt/sources.list:
Code: Select all
deb http://archive.debian.org/debian wheezy main

Remove the line and update the database again after installing the package.

EDIT: or perhaps follow stevepusser's excellent advice in the linked thread.
