Why no CDEmu Debian package?

Postby debianpwr » 2020-09-16 19:51

I would like to know why Debian doesn't provide a package for CDEmu, other distros like Arch and Gentoo have packages for this.

CDEmu was requested many years ago https://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/requested_byage is it not included for a specific reason?
CDEmu is the only software that allowed me play some old games on Linux using my disk images.

I have seen that other packages like brl-cad which I have used before in other distros were also listed in the request page many years ago.

The tarballs contain a debian/ directory and I've just built a .deb for the client in my buster box without any problems: https://cdemu.sourceforge.io/debian

If I had to hazard a guess, I would guess that it's because no one considered it important enough to step up and be the maintainer. Debian is a volunteer organization, and someone has to volunteer to maintain the package. That takes time and energy and expertise.
Take my advice, I'm not using it.
