Steam VERSION_ID unbound variable

Postby madtyn » 2021-02-16 11:02

Hello,
I'm in a bullseye Debian and I'm getting this error when launching some Steam games:

Code: Select all
/home/madtyn/.steam/debian-installation/steam.sh: liña 114: VERSION_ID: variable sen asignar
/home/madtyn/.steam/debian-installation/steam.sh: liña 114: VERSION_ID: variable sen asignar
Running Steam on debian  64-bit
/home/madtyn/.steam/debian-installation/steam.sh: liña 114: VERSION_ID: variable sen asignar
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Pins up-to-date!
Steam client's requirements are satisfied

After this the game does not start. I came to inspect that script and it uses the variable, and doing "echo $VERSION_ID" shows nothing.

I don't know why this happens. Some of the games were properly working before and I tried to install the nVidia drivers and did it actually.

I already read that. I tried installing lsb-release and it was already installed.

I don't have a /etc/os-release path

I run Debian Sid as desktop system and /etc/os-release does exist. It contains this:
Code: Select all
PRETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux bullseye/sid"
NAME="Debian GNU/Linux"
ID=debian
HOME_URL="https://www.debian.org/"
SUPPORT_URL="https://www.debian.org/support"
BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.debian.org/"

Just fix the PRETTY_NAME to your distribution and save it as /etc/os-release and perhaps that will fix your problem.

Ok. I had a epic dumb moment. I was looking for some directory and os-release was a file, that's why I couldn't find it. My apologies.

I have that same PRETTY_NAME.
