command needed to configure resolutions for gnome, please he

Can somebody please help, I have been away from linux for a while, and cannot remember the command I need to e3dit the config file where the screen resolutions are stored. Please help!!

The command is:
$ gnome-display-properties
This is also in the gnome menu:
Applications --> Desktop Preferences --> Screen Resolution
I dont know what config file it writes to. Probably in your ~.gnome2/ directory.
