Display Problems

Postby 0x1d3 » 2005-09-02 04:40

I have debian all set up except for the whole video drivers piece. I have the basic ones installed. But that only runs at 800x600. When I try to increase it the screen to 1024x768 it goes all tiled, it is very strange. Anyway, I went to the site and was baffled about how much the ati instructions suck. So I was hoping somebody here could help me out. The video card is a ATI Mobility Radeon with 64mb of video memory. That is about all I know. Thanks.

The problem I had was that I couldn't increase my resolution more than 800x600. Then - probably through this forum - i found the following command.

root#dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
Make sure the graphics driver is vesa. Don't bother about bus name and other technical staff required, use the default values.
Use monitor configuration in the medium level, and finally don't forget to hit space when selecting the desired resolution.

This is what I did with ATI mobility radeon at 32MB. I think mine is model 7600 I can't remembert exactly
