Kernel 2.6.8 does not compile

Postby alexey555 » 2005-10-07 13:34

I had installed Debian (testing) with default kernel. Currently trying to compile a 2.6.8 kernel. gcc is installed 3.4 and 4.0 from debs.

"make menuconfig" report a first error message about changed static declaration, but this is easily corrected. Kernel configurator also does not like some locations exiting with fault.

After kernel is got configured, make-kpkg or "make all" reports errors almost on every step. Is there a correct way to compile a 2.6.8 kernel ? Maybe I am using a too new gcc ?

make-kpkg should be fine for every kernel. i do not use anything else.

can you post us some of the error messages? maybe you are missing some libraries ....
