It is clearly told in documentation that PCMCIA package is useful to manage laptop cards. But it is not clearly stated whether or not PCMCIA is also necessary when dealing with desktop cards. So, does it make sense to install and run PCMCIA on desktops?

In a desktop computer you'll never come across with a PCMCIA card(or I never have!), as it was solely designed for laptops.
