Problems with Starting gdesklets-daemon

#1 Post by jonesypeter »

I hope someone can help.

I am installed Debian Sarge and upgraded to 'unstable' using the 'dist-upgrade'. I then installed Gdesklets 0.35.2-3 with Synaptic. I am using Kernel 2.6.14-2.

When I try and run 'Gdesklets' from the command prompt, I get:

peter@debian:~$ gdesklets
Starting gdesklets-daemon...
Cannot establish connection to daemon: timeout!
The log file might help you solving the problem.
peter@debian:~$

The log file just says 'Log messages of /home/peter/.gdesklets/logs/gdesklets%3A0.0.log'

gdesklets check give

peter@debian:~$ gdesklets check
Checking requirements:
- sys ... found
- xml.parsers.expat ... found
- xml.sax ... found
- gtk ... found
- ORBit ... found
- bonobo.ui ... found
Requirements checking done. Your system looks ok!

Please help, I want some eyecandy! and do not want to move to KDE.

Thanks

Peter Jones

I have seen the same thing. gDesklets seems nice but I've found it very finicky and prone to becoming disfunctional. It's still fairly new stuff, though, and I see that development may have picked back up.
