Unstable Sources for AMD64?

#1 Post by Carlosinfl »

I am right now using Debian AMD64 kernel.

linux-image-2.6.12-1-amd64-k8 (2.6.12-10) to be more specific however I don't know where to update my source list.

Right now I am using 1 of 5 sources that we available from the Net Install but there dont seem to be many updated or new packages.

Right now my list is as follows:

deb http://debian.csail.mit.edu/debian-amd64/debian/ testing main
deb-src http://debian.csail.mit.edu/debian-amd64/debian/ testing main

# deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main

I guess the updates main is commented out due to getting an error during install saying it could not connect or install any updates for some reason. Can anyone tell me what source list I should be using or recommend?

Thanks!

The mirror you're using also carries unstable (you can click your own links to see what they have) so you could just replace testing with unstable (or sid). But note that there's a pretty hefty kde transition in unstable (wich probably is why testing migration has slowed to a trickle) so some packages might not be installable.

I don't understand what you mean by "kde transistion. I am using Gnome 2.10 and would like unstable sources to "upgrade" to Gnome 2.12.

all kde libraries were recompiled and uploaded in incompatible versions (i belive this was one of those c++ gcc things), not all apps have been recompiled against the new libraries so you couldn't upgrade without loosing a bunch of apps. However this seems to have settled today as i was able to update every package in kde. AFAIK unstable still contains gnome 2.10 although it wouldn't surprice me if individual apps have gone in. http://packages.debian.org/gnome 2.12 is in experimental, if you decide to pull it from there i'd suggest that you upgrade to unstable but don't do an upgrade (or dist-upgrade) from unstable to experimental just install the things you want and then set your repositories back to unstable. experimantal sometimes contains things that really are just that. installing apt-listbugs is probably a good idea although it's no panacea.
