Framebuffers, Splash Screens and initrd stuff

#1 Post by Humbletech99 »

Does anybody have any details on frame buffered consoles and boot splash screens etc on Debian, I know there are packages on Gentoo for this but I'd like to get a really snazzy Debian box to counter balance.

I'm runnning Debian Sid (Unstable).

Enable frame buffers by adding a vga= statement in /boot/grub/menu.list.
Example: kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1-k7 root=/dev/hda1 ro vga=0x305

thanks, I've done framebuffers before I'm more interested in how to get really nice splash screens, console backgrounds and things like that. I've had a look a Gentoo docs but they have a package to do this, I'm wondering if there is something similar in Debian.
