MP3 Detection?

Postby Carlosinfl » 2006-02-24 14:29

I have a Creative Zen Touch 20GB MP3 player & was wondering if there is a trick to getting Linux to see this as an external USB drive so I can drag / drop files to it like I do in XP? I updated the Firmware on this player to use the MTP protocol so I don't need software to transfer files and can do this like a normal external USB hdd. I think that Microsoft only supports MTP but there has to be a way to get MP3 players to work on Linux.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know about MTP but I mount my camera that I have set to MSC as a mass storage device with no problem.

What version of Debian are you running?

Then udev should take care of it I would think. Try plugging it in. To check if it's picked up by the system you can do:
Code: Select all
# tail -f /var/log/messages

There you will see what device it is and should be able to mount it quite easily with a line like
Code: Select all
mount -t vfat /dev/sda* /media/mp3player

Just remember to create the /media/mp3player/ directory first.

This is the approach I used when mounting my camera as a USB storage device anyway...

/media/ is not writeable for users. You have to be root...
