noob question
Yes it is possible. You can either have Windows and Linux on the same HDD, but on different partitions, or have them on two different HDDs as you asked.
On boot you can choose what operating system to start. This is done with a bootloader provided by the Linux install. There are two bootloaders to choose from, they are called Lilo and Grub.
A little tip:
If you've never used Linux before and just want to check it out there is a 'live CD' called Knoppix which you can boot and run Linux from without installing anything on the harddisk(s).

I don't know which is best of Lilo or Grub. I guess it depends... I use Grub.
The bootloader usualy comes with the Linux distribution you install, so you don't need to "get it."

Please explain what you're question is, because I don't get it...Linux Nub wrote:thought of something...
if i do this.. (with a real linux install and not just knoppix)
i would have to install new drivers like for my mobo, soundcard, gfx, usb and all the other stuff right
else it would seem strange
When you use knoppix, it autodetects your hardware and runs completely from cd.
WHen you do a real linux installation, you just do a linux installation, including the linux drivers for your mobo etc.
But Windows won't notice anything, so at least you do not need new drivers for that.
