webmin problem

Postby xenalise » 2006-06-13 21:57

Heya... I've recently installed Debian 3.1r2 on my home server and it appears that webmin refuses to allow access to any of my stations - I get access denied errors everytime I visit the server's webmin address... Why would this be?

Check your webmin ip Access Control settings, and your Webmin users, if you wish to login as other than root.

Webmin defaults to only allowing local administration under Debian .... I assume this is done for security reasons so feel confident and taken care of, log into Webmin localy and look under the misc. settings, enable other IP adresses you would like to admin from and save your settings.

In webmin Version 1.260 ( I haven't upgraded to 1.270 ):

Login locally to webmin.

Click Webmin Configuration

Click IP Access Control

Enter the hostnames/IP network numbers or ranges you wish to allow access
Select the radio button beside Only allow from listed addresses

For security reasons you may wish to enable a non-root user

From webmin main menu, select Webmin Users

Select Create a new Webmin user, and enable access to whatever modules you think you'll need to administer remotely.

save and restart webmin
