dpkg -l |grep terminology

If none of the more specific forums is the right place to ask

dpkg -l |grep terminology

Postby sofasurfer » 2006-07-17 04:52

When I do a 'dpkg -l |grep cups', for instance, and the result is...
rc libcupsimage2 1.1.23-10sarge Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - image libs
ii libcupsys2-gnu 1.1.23-10sarge Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - libs

What is the meaning of the 'rc' and 'ii' ?
I tried man pages and I don't see them mentioned but I wonder if they have to do with 'installed' and 'removed' status?

They do. ii means it is successfully and completely installed, rc I think means it has been installed in the past but removed.

rc is removed, as in apt-get remove, this means the program is removed but its config files are kept

to completely get rid of the package, including the config files, apt-get remove --purge packagename, and if you have already removed a package (and it shows up as rc), dpkg -P packagename
