dpkg status codes

Postby endfx » 2006-07-18 17:35

I'm running dpkg -l to get a list of packages I have installed.
I cannot figure out what the status codes (in the first column/field) mean.

rc and ii are the two that I'm specifically interested in.

I checked the man pages for dpkg but could not find them in there.

So, what do the rc and ii status codes mean?

The consensus seems to be that ii means installed and rc means reconfigured. No promises. See:

ii is currently installed, rc is removed but didn't remove config files (apt-get remove package will make it rc, ie it keeps the config files, apt-get remove --purge to completely wipe the package from your system, this only works if you have it installed, alternatively if a package shows up as rc, you can dpkg -P it, to remove its config files)
