Actually, it seems to be doing this for any sort of apt-get now. Help?!

Your dpkg status is corrupted. And that's bad. Very very extremely bad...

Well...like...I didnt do anything different. However, I restarted and it was fine.

Maybe you had some sort of had drive problem or something preventing dpkg from reading the status files. Anyway, glad to know it works now.
