Why is PCSC-Lite installed?

Postby pcalvert » 2006-07-27 17:53

I noticed that PCSC-Lite is running on my computer, and I don't know why.
It's used for smart card readers, and I don't have one.

The package name is pcscd. See:
http://packages.debian.org/stable/misc/pcscd

Is this package installed by default? It doesn't seem likely that it would be, but maybe it gets installed with KDE? Is there some way to find out? I tried simulating its removal with aptitude to see what other packages would also be removed, but that wasn't very helpful.

Okay, I am going to answer my own question. :D

A "light bulb" just went off in my head. And then I did this:

# cd /var/log
# more aptitude

In other words, I started looking through the log file for aptitude. Sure enough, my suspicion was correct; pcscd was installed when I installed KDE.
