apt-get problem

#1 Post by new_user »

I am a new user of debian, just today I installed in my computer. But I fall in a minor problem.

When I am using the apt-get command, all the time it download German version of package. My country setup is an USA, but why this problem happens?

Here is an example:
apt-get install firefox
Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig
Abh舅gigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut... Fertig
E: Konnte Paket firefox nicht finden
I have another question. Can I configure "apt-get" in a way so it will download the packages from nearby server.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks in advance.

You could change the resources file.

/etc/apt/resources

Thanks.

But I found that I had done a terrible mistake  , when I installed
somehow I missed in some place and I have installed in German
environment (probably). I installed with Knoppix Harddisk install system.
At present my KDE environment in English, and all the message and
environment in English. But in shell (SSH) often the message come in
German language.

Now should I need to install again, or is there any way to change the
environment to English.

Looking forward.

Eh, Debian is not Knoppix.

On Debian, you could dpkg-reconfigure locales to set the default language to English (or any other language)

Also, you should edit /etc/apt/sources.list for editing which mirror to use.

schmiel: I don't know what you're talking about, but /etc/apt/resources doesn't exist on any of my Debian systems, and isn't mentioned in the apt manpage either...

Lol sorry, i've made a mistake :P
It was an answer on:

"/etc/apt/sources.list"
That file is the one you could configure for changing your apt sources.
