aptitude invalid option -G

#1 Post by gryphydd »

I'm using aptitude 0.2.15.9 and tried:

aptitude -r -G install mysql-query-browser

as suggested in the debian reference manual http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/refer ... ge.en.html

section 6.2.6: aptitude -r -G install package

and the result was $aptitude invalid option -G

I'm wondering if the manual refers to a different version, I believe I have the current testing version of aptitude, or if it's just incorrect. And ultimately I can't find out if aptitude supports optionally installing recommended or suggested packages as advertised. It appears not.

I've spent a lot of time on this and can't find an answer.

You can install the recommanded packages with '-r', but it seems aptitude doesn't support installing 'suggested' packages automatically. You have to install suggested packages by hand.
