Hi
I manage a Debian server here at work and suddenly, when we rebooted earlier this week, the system halted during the boot-process.
I can see that the following error has occured:
kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter errno=2
How do I solve this problem? Since I'm a relative nooB in this area, please describe the solution-process in detail. Thanks...
The computer is a Dell rack-server with a 250GB Maxtor SATA disk.
best regards
/Henrik

urgent - boot "error"
No, I didn't update any software during the time before the problem occured...sprucio wrote:What was the last thing you did?
Did you update any software or the kernel itself?
The other day, when I was checking the server via my private workstation, I couldn't get in contact with the server, so I asked my boss to reboot the server.
It was during this reboot that the server reportet the kmod error.
Is there any way for me to get hold of the data on the disk?
Here are a couple of screenshots from the boot:

hope they help...
further I can inform that the system is running with a CERC SATA 1.5/6ch Controller.

As long as the discs were not in any danger, you should be able to get things off the disk rather easily. You can use a live CD such as Knoppix to boot and then move files over to another server using either FTP or Samba.
The only thing that worries me is if you have any sort of RAID running on this.
From the error message, it looks like that controller card might be faulty.

ok, it worked with a boot on Knoppix live cd... could access the files and make a backup to another server.Anonymous wrote:thanks, I'll check it out tomorrow..sprucio wrote:As long as the discs were not in any danger, you should be able to get things off the disk rather easily. according to the log files, the problem is on the disk and not the controller.
thanks for all the help!
