anyway thanks on the welcome.
Don't sweat it Garry! ;)

Take your time to write your posts and don't feel like you have to "nail" spam on the spot.
We are not going to reply or click links on spam posts and even if a few of them make it and stay alive while you write your posts or drink your coffee, nothing bad will happen.
The important thing is to remove spam and keep the board uncluttered, not to remove it the instant it is posted.

This is of course only my personal opinion, but I am confident many will agree with me.

Bye and thanks.

I totally agree with mor.

You were a helper on this forum first, became spam hunter later, and the role was trusted to you because of your contributions as a helper (well, your previous experience also counts, but credibility comes from your interaction on the forums as a helper). So while your new role definitely demands a little more from you, if it hinders your contribution as a helper in any way, I'd consider it an overall loss to the forums.

I have a very little experience of moderation on forums, and I was doing just fine. But as soon as I started feeling that it was restricting my ability to help freely, I stepped down. What use is a perfectly moderated forum if there are no good helpers on it?

Actually his last post was on the 20th several days ago. So something must have happened around then for him to go away.

He did post a thread in which he explained his reasons but it has been deleted since — a few of our newer members criticised him repeatedly for posting links to lmsptfy and man pages and he took it to heart and decided to leave

Things change for people. However, if you keep having/allowing SJW snowflakes run the show and make demands then this is the natural result. Qualified people leave and your left with twits holding their knickers up. Debian is but a pale shadow of its former self, and that affliction is spreading to a distro near you.
