saulgoode wrote:Your opinion is not without merit, however, there are logistical reasons that favor a more incremental approach to elevation of duties within the Staff. At each level of administration -- Spamhunter, Moderator, and Administrator -- additional powers are granted and increased potential of causing irreparable damage to the contents of the forum is acquired. It is in the best interests of everyone (including the person being deputed) that they have a chance to grow accustomed to the tools available and learn the risks involved. This is especially true with the dramatic redistribution of positions that has recently taken place.

Why am I not surprised.
Sorry, I'm not very good at deciphering crypto riddles. Too much of a literalist, I guess.

At least the bot spam seems to have subsided as a result of the restructuring which is a good thing. But I do wish the admins could wear a different color especially if they are going to visibly active. Too bright. Hurts my eyes.
May the FORK be with you!

I can tell you for certain that it's dropped dramatically.

Rather indifferent about the staff changes, but I do have one question....

Didn't Craigevil and saulgoode both quit at least once? Why were they made red when the quit?

Oh wait...they must have recanted....I'm pretty sure though Saulgoode has posted within the last 6 months reiterating his resignation (but that he was moderating still, just as little possible)...

Wait, I have one more question...

What about Oswaldkelso....wasn't he a spam hunter? I'm not seeing him anymore...did he quit? I must have missed that.

First off thanks for the prompt. To make my position clear. I am alive :) But real life has taken it's toll on my forum activity’s. I moved to a remote rural location with out internet access. I did inform some staff members that I would be away for a long while. Things took even longer than expected to get back on line. Soulgoode emailed me to ask if I wished to step down, but such are the current events in my life that I can not give a definitive answer as they are not all within my control.

I apologize for my slackness in keeping staff and forum members updated on my circumstances. That said I hope to return at some point and be an active member of the forum in one form or another.

My status with regard to moderating these forums has changed little since I made this posting. Today I engaged in my first action that could possibly be considered "moderating" by editing a member's post to fix a broken URL link.

I have not decided to become active in moderating the forums; in fact, I am more than willing to resign completely from the staff (including Spamhunting) when things return to a more regular state. Nevertheless, there is much work still to be done in fully getting a handle on our spam problem, and it is my intent to continue contributing to that effort. The powers associated with being an Administrator greatly facilitate (indeed, are necessary for) that contribution and so I will not be seeking to have those powers rescinded any time soon.

Should the circumstances of my participation on the forum staff change, there will be a public notification made.
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it. -- Brian Kernighan

I hope you don't mind this saulgoode - but here's a quote from your email where you expressed interest in helping out.
I have no interest in making moderation decisions on members' discussions or to be involved in administering the forums beyond the removal of spam and porn.
You've stuck to your guns since then (4 years ago!) and I commend you for that :) And for the work you've done keeping this forum clean <3

Getting back to the thread's title,
Re: No more 'greens'!
With the new title of "server admin" and the new reds, there are now way to many coloured names cluttering the board. Why not have all members with the same colour and simply add titles under the names of members with administrative privileges? Such as:
Randicus
Moderator

If it is believed a different colour makes it easier for people to distinguish those with administrative privileges, the title could have a different colour, but the same colour for all titles. Half a dozen titles and colours seems more akin to a military ranking system than a computer users forum.

But perhaps it only bothers golinux's and my eyes. :D
Anyway, just a thought.

To bad the military types already know this.

One eye is weaker then the other.
when I'm tired, and the lens is dirty I squit and zoom (CTRL + +) so I can read.

This quote only stated what Saul has already said here. The fact he said it when he first joined up was the point.
