Clock of forum server

#1 Post by wnelis »

Could it be that the clock of the forum server is 10 minutes off? The difference with my local time is about 50 minutes, in stead of an integral number of hours.

Yes, although it seems to be 11 minutes here. As I write, the message at the top (after refreshing the screen) says "It is currently 21 Jan 2017, 18:53 when the local time is actually 18:42.

Well my clock is on CET,..it says 08:12,....
I don't know that it matters really,...everywhere in the world is
on a different time zone,...
Remembering from a old song I heard some where :
Does anybody really know what time it is ?
Who knows ?
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/c/chicago/do ... 29880.html

If they did reset or change the "forum clock" there would still be
somebody else that has a different time showing on their computer,...

In fact when I have needed to check the time and did a search,
"what time is it in "this city/country" , depending on which result
I look at, it will vary,.... so "Does any body really know what time it is ? "
It is morning here, the sun is just now coming up. But on the "other side", it is evening, and the sun is going down,

Oh Garry, have you been at the fermented cactus juice already? :-)
All the time zones are related to UTC or oldschool GMT or, if you've been in the military, maybe Zulu Time and as long as you're not in one of those locations where they differ by a half hour rather than 1 hour the "minutes" will be the same. Mine and the other posters (except you and the OP) differ by 11 minutes and the forum is off by those 11 minutes. The difference between the 10 minutes and our 11 minutes is likely do to the "seconds" tic of our respective clocks.

[Edit]
Discovered something that I didn't know until I searched, there are even time zones with 45 minute differences. I knew about the half hour difference but not the 45 minutes.

Also found something about chrony, that may or may not be related. From the crony manual,"4.2.55 rtcsync

The rtcsync directive enables a mode where the system time is periodically copied to the real time clock (RTC).

On Linux the RTC copy is performed by the kernel every 11 minutes. This directive cannot be used when the normal RTC tracking is enabled, i.e. when the rtcfile directive is used."

I wonder if it is just coincidence or could that be an insight into our 11 minutes? Anyone know if DUF servers use chrony rather than ntp? Rhetorical question, I don't need an answer for that.

Actually, I'm in US Central and the time here is 10:53, so it would be 49 minutes off.

Yup, on the cactus juice, better then orange juice. :D
Most of the UTC time results https://www.utctime.net/are/were, showing :
16:35, just a few minuets ago, but this onehttp://time.unitarium.com/utc/ shows: 09:53
but of course , that constantly changes,...
and the forum says : It is currently 2017-01-25 09:59 ,
I think it all depends on what clock one is looking at,...I don't know,

Yes I understand UTC and GMT are mans attempt at coordinating
some sort of "universal time",... any way it is time for another "cactus juice", and a cigarette., ... :x

Gee wish I was there with you, could use a shot, and one quarter of a lime to get some vitamin C. Hope you have a good day.

Well, your post at "exactly 8:52 Eastern Standard Time" showed up on my screen as "by wizard10000 2017-01-25 13:03", so I quess Garry is correct, who knows what time it is. :-)

I live in the UK, which is currently on UTC/GMT.

When the actual UTC is 20:41, the FDN User Control Panel, Board Preferences time is shown as 19:52.

Note that "My timezone" is set to UTC and I have set "Summer Time/DST is in effect:" to "No".

This means that FDN time is currently running 49 minutes behind UTC.

With recent versions of Debian , the installer asks if you want it to automagically keep the system clock updated. Seems like maybe they could install that. Or maybe the forum doesn't run on Debian?
