Can we make the forum adaptive to mobile phone?

#1 Post by sw2wolf »

It is not convenient to view this forum on mobile phone. Maybe we can change it as https://forums.freebsd.org/ ?

SIncerely!

thankfully not.

otherwise we might get flooded by posts all in textspeak with little or no sense (bored on the bus? post on fdn).

ok, more serious answer:
the forum software is phpbb. i doubt that will change.
so, explore the possibilities of phpbb.
it just might be enough to write a forum theme that is (more) mobile friendly.
then ask an admin to add that theme.

or have you already tried all themes? maybe one of themalready does what you want.

Does it really lead to having more "textspeak" in the forums? Really?

I'd argue that it's more beneficial for everyone to have mobile compatible forum. Sure, one or two "textspeak" threads could emerge, but folks around here are so quick to shoot down inadequately based threads so it shouldn't make much difference. In my opinion, it would mostly benefit those who are active in the forums. [sarcasm]As odd as it is, even Debian users have internet capable mobile devices.[/sarcasm]

actually i was refering precisely to tapatalk.
my experience from another forum is that those posts signed
"sent from my android device with tapatalk"
were the worst.
but of course it doesn't have to be this way, i bow my head in humility.

incidentally i am totally against tapatalk; iirc it requires some sort of site rewrite to add hooks and css classes for tapatalk, so it would be more work than a mobile friendly theme, with little gain - except, of course, one would be willingly rolling over for yet another data mining company.

This site used to support Tapatalk, but I haven't tried it recently.
