Is there a thread like this?
You use: MIcrosoft Office
I use: OpenOffice
etc. I've seen a few threads of people asking what program and I think a little "directory" of sorts would be helpful. OTOH, I have used Debian for a decade and don't know what other people use or I'd do this project myself.
Where would be a good place for such a thing? If I get help from people compiling it, I'd be happy to maintain it.

You use / I use
Re: You use / I use
Something like the
amazing apps that others may not be aware of -thread
Perhaps like that:
http://wiki.debian.org/Software
?
I usually pick up the apps on the fly (someone posts something in a thread...kinda like that).
I also use the german ubuntu-wiki to search for apps. Make use of non-desktop distributions.
Not sure if what you are talking about is out there. Might be a good idea.
If i understand it correct oswaldkelso's beginners-guide might be a good place to join:
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 58&start=0
https://docs.google.com/View?id=ddq4dz3q_24cxjdstg2
(at the bottom of the second link seem to be placeholders for such an idea)

Re: You use / I use
I meant on here, not an external link, but yeah, something like that.
I have a hard time telling people who use stuff I've never heard of what the Linux equivalent is.

LOL! Reminds me of when I was using a bootleg copy of PartitionMagic, before I knew about qtParted (and later GParted).beavenburt wrote:You use a ripped off copy of Nero, I use K3B.
